Water features have become very popular in gardens today; the most popular being a waterfall and small pond. You can hire professionals to design and install your waterfall and pond, or visit your local home improvement center and buy a DIY kit. While it appears they have become somewhat more affordable, the project can still be somewhat expensive, depending on the size, type, setting, etc.. One of the biggest expenses is the pond itself. It requires specialized equipment to excavate the hole, a special liner, careful backfilling and of course mainentance of the water, filtration, and pump systems. For this reason, many people opt not to install a water feature at all. But, if you are willing to set aside the notion that you can’t have one without the other, then you can still have a beautiful water feature in your garden without the expense of a pond; you can build a pondless waterfall. This is a system whereby the water runs down over the surface, enters a tub (or some other hidden receptacle) and gets re-circulated back to the top of the waterfall with a simple pump system. This system requires very little water, doesn’t need much space, does not cost nearly as much as building a pond, requires very little maintenance, and still offers all of the beauty and tranquility of a waterfall. So, take stroll through your garden, pick a spot, and start to imagine how lovely it will be to sit and listen to the cascading water in your pondless waterfall.

Just because you’ve only got houseplants doesn’t mean you don’t have the gardening spirit – I look upon myself as an indoor gardener.
